| Abstract: [Objective] To investigate the current status of tumor health literacy among residents of Wuwei City of Gansu Province and identify its influencing factors. [Methods] A convenience sampling method was used to conduct a tumor health literacy questionnaire survey among 3 001 local residents from 3-5 communities and 1-2 townships with a high density of permanent residents in Liangzhou District, Wuwei City. The tumor health literacy levels of residents with different demographic characteristics were compared, and a quantile regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors. [Results] The median tumor health literacy score of residents in Wuwei City was 75.00 [95% confidence interval(CI ): 68.92-85.14]. Statistically significant differences in tumor health literacy levels were observed across different age groups, educational levels, occupations, household income levels, marital statuses, presence or absence of chronic diseases, presence or absence of family history of cancer, and self-rated health status(all P<0.05). Quantile regression results showed that age had a significant negative effect on tumor health literacy scores in the low-quantile group (P<0.05). Educational level had a significant positive effect across all quantiles (P<0.05). Household income showed a significant positive effect in the low-quantile group (P<0.05). Having a chronic disease had a significant negative effect in the low-quantile group(P<0.05). A family history of cancer had a significant negative effect in the middle- to high-quantile groups(P<0.05), with the largest effect observed at the 80th percentile. Self-rated health status significantly affected tumor health literacy scores mainly in the high-quantile group (P<0.05), with poorer self-rated health associated with lower scores. With the exception of military personnel, healthcare workers had significantly higher tumor health literacy scores than other occupational groups (P<0.05). [Conclusion] The effect sizes of various influencing factors on tumor health literacy vary across quantiles of the literacy distribution. Future interventions should strengthen health education and healthcare accessibility for populations with low literacy, provide precise cancer prevention and treatment guidance alongside psychological support for those with high literacy, and implement occupation-specific differentiated strategies. |
