Objective To analyse the composition of hospitalization expenses and influencing factors of lung cancer patients in Gansu Province, and to provide reference for reducing patients"" disease burden. Methods The data on the front page of lung cancer patients"" cases in public hospitals in Gansu Province from 2013 to 2022 were collected, and descriptive statistical methods were used to statistically describe the patients"" demographic characteristics and expenses composition, multiple linear regression and quantile regression were applied to analyse the influencing factors of hospitalization expenses. Results A total of 43674 lung cancer patients were included in this study, and the total hospitalization expenses of the patients totalled 518997144.36 yuan, with the average case hospitalization expenses of 7313.48 (4376.86, 12372.75) yuan, of which the drug expenses (185159061.00 yuan), the diagnosis expenses (134555304.10 yuan), and the treatment expenses (8775029.40 yuan) were the top 3 expenses types, accounting for 35.68%, 25.93% and 19.03% respectively. The results of multiple linear regression analyses showed that the effects of different age, region, level of medical institution attended, admission route, number of days of hospitalization, and method of medical payment on patients"" inpatient expenses were all statistically significant (P<0.05). The results of the quantile regression model showed that region, route of admission, method of medical payment, and number of days in the hospital had a more significant effect at all three quantile points of hospitalization expenses (P<0.05). Conclusion The burden of lung cancer patients in this region is too heavy, and the composition of hospitalization expenses needs to be optimised. The publicity of lung cancer prevention and treatment should be strengthened, ineffective hospitalization days should be reduced, and the coverage of medical insurance should be expanded to reduce the hospitalization expenses of lung cancer patients. |
