| Abstract Objective:This study aims to analyze the epidemiological characteristics and trends of malignant tumors in Wuwei City, Gansu Province in 2022. Methods:?Based on the latest data from tumor registration and follow-up surveillance, we conducted a pooled analysis of qualified data on the incidence, mortality, and population of malignant tumors reported by all registration sites in Wuwei City, Gansu Province, which had passed quality control. The Joinpoint log-linear regression model was employed to calculate the Average Annual Percentage Change (APC) for both the age-standardized incidence and mortality rates, analyzing the temporal trends in Wuwei City. Results:?In 2022, there were 4,677 new cases of malignant tumors in Wuwei City, Gansu Province, with a crude incidence rate of 263.55/105 and an age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) of 157.49/105. There were 2,902 deaths, with a crude mortality rate of 163.53/105 and an age-standardized mortality rate (ASMR) of 90.73/105. The ASIR and ASMR were higher in males than in females (176.75/105 vs. 140.20/105). The incidence and mortality of malignant tumors increased with age, peaking in the 75~79 and 80~84 age groups, respectively. Significant sex and age differences were observed in the incidence and mortality of malignant tumors in Wuwei City in 2022. Regarding incidence, the top five cancers in males were stomach, lung, liver, colorectal, and esophageal cancer. In females, the top five were breast, stomach, lung, colorectal, and thyroid cancer. Age-specific distribution showed that before age 40, thyroid cancer was a common high-incidence cancer in both sexes. After 40, the spectrum changed markedly: stomach cancer predominated in males, being most prevalent in the 55~84 age group, while other digestive tract cancers and lung cancer increased rapidly after age 55. In females, breast cancer was the most common, highly prevalent in the 40~79 age group, with stomach, lung, and colorectal cancers rising significantly after age 60.For mortality, the top five causes of death for both males and females were stomach, lung, liver, colorectal, and esophageal cancer. Stomach cancer alone accounted for 24.64% of all deaths. Mortality rates increased rapidly after age 65, peaking in the 80~84 age group. The majority of deaths in the overall population were concentrated in the 65~84 age range. From 2010 to 2022, the trends in the overall ASIR and ASMR for malignant tumors in Wuwei City were not statistically significant (P>0.05). However, the ASMR in males showed a significant decreasing trend, with an Average Annual Percentage Change (AAPC) of -2.29% (95% CI: -6.38% to -0.13%; P=0.04).Conclusion:?The overall trends in the incidence and mortality of malignant tumors in Wuwei City, Gansu Province, remained stable, with a significant decline observed only in male mortality. However, the overall disease burden remains substantial. Stomach cancer represents a core cancer type for prevention and control efforts. Key focuses include digestive (e.g. stomach cancer) and respiratory (e.g. lung cancer) system tumors among males, while breast cancer and thyroid cancer warrant particular attention for females. Middle-aged and elderly populations constitute the high-risk groups. Therefore, it is essential to continuously strengthen comprehensive prevention and control measures targeting these key cancer types and high-risk populations. |
