| Objective: Purpose:Institutional-regional collaboration serves as a vital platform for science and technology dissemination by research institutions.Since its establishment, the Hangzhou Institute of Medical Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences, has been working in collaboration with Zhejiang Cancer Hospital in a model of integration and co-construction between the institute and the hospital, becoming another typical representative and operational case of cooperation between research institutions and local authorities. Based on the practical realities of technological innovation in hospitals, this paper analyzes the core elements for enhancing the scientific and technological innovation capacity of specialized cancer hospitals under the institution-hospital integration model, as well as the diversified pathways for developing research-oriented cancer centers.
Methods: Using scientific and technological innovation data from 13 renowned specialized cancer hospitals nationwide as samples, this study employs fuzzy-set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA) to examine the multidimensional concurrent factors influencing the innovation vitality of these hospitals at the current stage, and explores different configuration pathways.
Results:The fsQCA method identified six configuration patterns affecting the enhancement of scientific and technological innovation capacity across the 13 specialized cancer hospitals. Among these, Configuration 1-characterized by the combinatorial advantage of non-high-level national research platforms combined with high-level CAS and CAE Academicians-aligns with the core factors driving improved scientific efficiency since institution-hospital integration.
Conclusion:The institution-hospital integrated development model significantly boosts hospitals" scientific and technological innovation capacity in the short term. However, compared to specialized cancer hospitals in provinces like Beijing and Guangzhou, it still exhibits deficiencies in comprehensive strengths essential for long-term development, such as high-level scientific talents, advanced research platforms, and landmark achievements. Based on the findings, six enhancement measures are proposed. |
